Force Intelligence and Specialist Operations

Detective Chief Superintendent Richard List is Head of Force Intelligence and Specialist Operations.

Richard is a former pupil of the John Colet School, Wendover, and has lived most of his life in the Aylesbury Vale. He has a degree in politics from Loughborough University and a masters degree in criminology from Portsmouth University.

He has been a police officer for over 22 years and has served in a wide variety of uniform and detective roles. He has previously been a Detective Chief Inspector at High Wycombe and has headed the Forces Specialist Operations Unit. Between 2008 and 2011 he was the Police Commander for the Aylesbury Vale, being responsible for the policing of the English Defence League demonstration in May 2010. This was the biggest deployment by Thames Valley Police for a decade and its peaceful outcome was testament to the tolerance and commitment all local people. Richard received a Chief Constable's Commendation and an award from Aylesbury Vale District Council for this work.

Richard has now been promoted to Detective Chief Superintendent responsible for leading Thames Valley Police's Force Intelligence and Specialist Operations Unit. This department is responsible for gathering information, covert intelligence and undertaking some of the police's most demanding, complex and sensitive policing operations.
