Keyless and fob access for vehicles is part of a new technology known by several names, including 'keyless go' and 'smart key', which is offered by many vehicle manufacturers and is described as convenient for drivers. It can incorporate many features, including remote starting.
However, this could also inadvertently open up opportunities for car thieves. These crimes can be prevented by taking these simple security measures:
- Ensure your vehicle alarm is always set when unattended and doors are fully locked.
- Vehicles with fob-type keys (without metal-toothed parts) or those which are keyless (read by the vehicle when you are in close proximity) are very convenient. However, you may wish to consider using a physical lock to secure your vehicle's steering wheel or gear stick in order to enhance the security of your vehicle.
