Local priorities - 'You said, We did'

The following priorities have been identified by the community and the police:

  • You said: Anti-social behaviour (ASB)

You told us that ASB was a problem in town centre locations

    We did:
The neighbourhood team have been working closely with the Foyer in the town – an assisted living facility for young people. The team regularly visit the Foyer to engage with staff and the young residents and have noticed a decrease in reports relating to residents causing ASB as a result. The NHPT also work with the core shift on weekends to patrol the town and tackle alcohol related ASB and disorder.

  • You said: Cycle theft

You said that bike theft was on the increase around the town

    We did:
The neighbourhood team have run a number of cycle marking events across the town and at large events in the area allowing bike owners to make them safer. The PCSOs have also been going into the local schools to give crime prevention advice to help people keep their bikes secure. If you would like more information on crime prevention or to have your bike marked, please contact the local team. In the last year we have seen a reduction in cycle theft by 43%.

  • You said: Shoplifting

You said that shoplifting was on the increase in the town centre

    We did:
The neighbourhood team increased high-visibility patrols around the stores. We have also worked closely with the stores to set up a Storenet scheme – an information sharing network that allows the local shops to better protect themselves from habitual shoplifters with support from police. We have also introduced shoplifting packs for businesses which allow them to more efficiently capture evidence and get this to police officers. This has been a long term priority and over the last year we have seen a decrease in shoplifting of 24% in the town centre.

These are being dealt with by your neighbourhood policing team in partnership with residents and other agencies. Progress will be reported in the Neighbourhood updates.
