Local priorities - 'You said, We did'
The following priorities have been identified by the community and the police:
You said: Drug use/activity in public places
There is an ongoing issue with drug use/activity in and around the town centre including drug paraphernalia being discarded on the street.
We have been working with Cherwell District Council and the Oxfordshire Health Team to address the drugs issue in the area and we are continuing our patrols around the hotspots. During September we executed three warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act and last week a male was sentenced to 5 years in prison for supplying drugs.
You said: Begging
We continue to receive complaints about begging in the Town Centre however the number of calls has reduced.
We have been pro-actively patrolling these areas engaging with those thought to be begging and causing Anti-Social Behaviour and have utilised Anti-Social Behaviour powers to remove people causing ASB from the Town Centre. We hope to bring you more news on the decision for the Public Spaces Protection Order in our next update.
You said: Parking
Main issue areas are in and around the Town Centre, with people parking on single and double yellow lines, no waiting zones and disabled bays.
In September 2016 we issued 49 parking tickets across the area, including Albert Street, Lower Cherwell Street, High Street, Horsefair, Britannia Road, London Yard, Bolton Road and George Street.
These are being dealt with by your neighbourhood policing team in partnership with residents and other agencies. Progress will be reported in the Neighbourhood updates.
